Results and diagrams from Students, parents' and teachers' surveys - Macedonia
Results from the students’
survey
All of the students said that they were planning their learning in
advance and that they take care about the places and conditions when they
learn. Most of them revise the material on time, don not learn by heart but try
to remember the material in their own way. They sometimes use different methods
of learning (for example: repeating the material, listening music while
learning, using other resources, trying to understand the material, underlining
the most important information) and they
emphasize and put signs on the material they learn. Majority of the students
sometimes make notes of the most important information that they learn. They
sometimes leave time to repeat the material. They always try to understand what
they learn and they say that in their own words. Most of the students ask for
help when they need it. The first person they ask for help is their teacher and sometimes it is their parents or
their classmates.
They sometimes
use the internet or the dictionaries to find information.
When they
prepare for a test first they learn what is the most important from the
material. Then they revise the material they have learnt, make notes or do the
exercises in the books connected with the test and revise the most important
information before the beginning of the test.
Results from the parents’
survey
Most of the parents help their children when they learn but some of
them leave the children first to try to learn the material by themselves and if
it is really necessary then they help them.
They motivate
the children by explaining them the importance of being educated.
The react well
to the good grade and try to explain their children that the bad grade is
something they should work on more. They talk to their children so that they
can learn more and get better grades.
The majority of
the parents say that the best method is learning the new things immediately and
revising the old things regularly.
Results from the teachers’
survey
Teachers find the active learning in pairs or in groups the most
efficient method of learning. They say that the children like making projects,
singing songs, playing games, doing puzzles and quizzes the most.
The majority of
the teachers explain to their student the different types of learning to help
them learn more (for example: revising regularly, learning together)
They use the
following techniques to activate the student in classes:
Interactive
learning, competitions, working in groups with changing the role of the leader.
They use
different methods this year (for example: ICT, active learning, brain friendly
learning).
